George Alexander Barnhart, age 34, of Taneytown, died on Wednesday, January 3, 2024. George was known for his kindness towards others and his hilarious, wicked-smart sense of humor. He was a loving son, brother, and friend to everyone who was lucky enough to know him.
George was a 2007 graduate of Winters Mill High School. He went on to continue his education at UMBC where he studied history. George was a life-long autodidact who loved discovering new music, books, and interests as a means of connecting with others.
A talented musician, George learned to play the alto and tenor saxophones early in childhood, and later taught himself the harmonica and guitar. His two most beloved possessions in adolescence were his vinyl collection and cherry red Gibson Fender Les Paul, the guitar played by his idol, Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin.
George thrived when he was able to be of service to others. Forever trying to make everyone around him laugh, forever using kindness and mischievousness as a tool to put those around him at ease, George had a way of modeling true empathy; his own social anxiety never kept him from noticing the needs of others.
Over the past year, George achieved the longest span of time in recovery during his adult life. He used that time to make amends, to make plans, and to constantly reach out to the many people in his life for whom he cared so deeply.
Surviving are his parents, George and Mary Barnhart of Taneytown; sister, Malena Barnhart and partner James Bewley of Phoenix, AZ; brother, Elijah Barnhart of Taneytown; aunts and uncles, Sharon and Steve Bogdanoff, Muriel Barnhart; Steve and Pat Barnhart; Great-Uncle, George Garcia; cousins, Jay Martin, Ian and Jen Serovy, Laura and Lance Harvey, Chloe Varnum, and Luna Varnum, Roger Garcia, George Don-Lynn and Mary Teresa Barnhart, Beven Barnhart, and Patrick Barnhart. Predeceased by his grandparents and numerous other family members.
