George William Amoss

George William Amoss, 96, of Westminster, Maryland died peacefully on Monday, October 21, 2024, at Columbia Cottage in Hanover, Pennsylvania. Born on May 22, 1928 near Marriottsville, Maryland, he was the son of the late William I. and Elizabeth (Hurt) Amoss. He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Theo Amoss, who died September 2019.

George worked at various jobs over the years that included Baumgardners’s Bakery, Shafer Brothers’, R.H. Shepherd, Black & Decker; as well as farming for various farmers. He was a member of St. John’s Leister’s Lutheran Church in Westminster where he served on the Property Committee.

George enjoyed gardening, repairing, and tinkering in his shop, where he built his own garden tractor that was used for many years. He also built snowplows, trailers, wagons and woodstoves. There was nothing he couldn’t make or fix.

He is survived by his five children, Steven (Robin) of Finksburg, MD, Sylvia Moklak of Hanover, PA, Faye Wolf (Ron) of Littlestown, PA, Daniel (Janet) of Westminster, MD, and Lisa Ogg (Dave) of Glenville, PA; 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and one on the way, and 7 great-great-grandchildren, and one on the way; sister-in-law, Carol Amoss of Taneytown, MD, and Betty Sanders of Littlestown, PA; brother-in-law, Dean Nusbaum of Aiken, South Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Melvin and Calvin Amoss and sister-in-law, Betty Amoss.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E Baltimore Street, Taneytown, MD. Burial will follow in Keysville Union Cemetery in Keymar, MD. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 28th, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank the staff of Columbia Cottage and VNA of Hanover/Spring Grove, PA for the great care he received.
