Genevieve May Eckard, age 82, of Taneytown, died peacefully Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster following a brief illness.
Born January 31, 1930 in Bachmans Valley, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Della M. (Wentz) Thomas. She was the wife of the late Donald Revelle Eckard who died in 2006.
Genevieve worked at Sylvia Garments for 23 years, Cambridge Rubber, and Westminster Knit. She was an avid seamstress, was an Elvis fan and enjoyed collecting elephants and watching NASCAR.
Surviving are sons, Richard Eckard and wife Debbie, Gary Eckard and wife Carolyn both of Taneytown; daughters, Donna May Shorb of Taneytown, and Linda Wetzel and fiancée Daniel Albaugh of Union Bridge; sister, Helen Wolf of Silver Run.
Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson; and 4 nephews.
She was predeceased by son-in-laws, David Cozort, Mike Shorb, and Dave Wetzel; sister, Julia Dougherty; and by 2 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown with Deacon Charles E. Barnhart, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Grace United Church of Christ Cemetery in Taneytown. The family will receive friends on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
