Marlin Eugene “Gene” Vaughn, 89, of Taneytown, MD passed away peacefully on Monday, July 23, 2018 at Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster with his loving family at his side. Born May 29, 1929 in Taneytown, he was the son of the late John Roy and Mary Pauline (Wantz) Vaughn. He was the devoted husband of Elsie Yvonne (Foreman) Vaughn, to whom he was married for 53 years.
Gene was a life-long dairy farmer in Carroll County. He also drove a school bus for Carroll County Public Schools for 20 years. He was member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Taneytown and Monocacy Masonic Lodge No. 203 AF & AM in Union Bridge. He loved farming and being outdoors. He enjoyed playing cards and hunting, and was a member of the Taneytown Rod and Gun Club and the Pheasants Forever organization. Gene was a fan of the Baltimore Orioles and the Baltimore Ravens. More than anything, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Surviving, in addition to his beloved wife Yvonne, are daughters, Debbie Naylor and husband Sidney of Madison, TN, and Stacy Critzer and husband Greg of Abingdon, MD; sister, Beatrice Sauble of Martinsburg, WV; grandchildren, Casey Naylor of Greenbrier, TN, Luke Naylor and wife Mandi of White House, TN, and Nicholas and Braeden Critzer of Abingdon, MD; great-grandchildren, Carter, Miles and Roxy; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Romaine Baker, Marian Vaughn, Connie Jaeger and Alyce Diller; and brother, Carroll Vaughn.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 38 W. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD 21787 with the Rev. Cristopher Frigm officiating. Burial will follow in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, July 27th at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. A Masonic service will be conducted at 8 p.m. on Friday evening at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gene’s name to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church at the above address or to Carroll Hospice Dove House, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD 21157.
