Freda Virginia Whitmer, 80, of Manchester, MD, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 2, 2021 at Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster. Born August 6, 1940 in Union Bridge, she was the daughter of the late Harley and Claire (Smith) Wise. She was the wife of the late Franklin “Frank” Whitmer, Sr., to whom she was married for 54 years. He passed in 2013.
Freda was a graduate of Eastern High School in Baltimore, class of ’58. She was a homemaker, cake baker, and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. “Freda’s Fancies” provided countless decorated cakes for all occasions over a span of 35 years. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, attending worship services and church activities, reading her Bible, and spending time with her family, especially her three generations of grandchildren.
Surviving are her children, Deb Renfro and husband Glenn of Hanover, PA, Frank Whitmer, Jr. and wife Dori of Union Bridge, and Barb Bridges and husband Randy of Taneytown; brother, Walter Wise and wife Shirley of Pasadena, MD; grandchildren, Tracey Willet and husband Josh, Heather Hanna and husband Chaz, Bryant Renfro and wife Kelli, Frank Whitmer, III, Rachel Whitmer, Daniel Bridges and wife Leslie, Tyler Bridges and wife Stephanie, Joshua Bridges and fiancée Katherine Novicki, and Natalia Bridges and fiancé Brandon Stoner; great-grandchildren, Zac, Emiline, and Brayden Willet, Hunter, Colton, and Camden Renfro, Jasmine, Alyssa, and Kory Whitmer, Devin Brooks, Ava Rae Miller, Annmarie, Axel, and Peyton Bridges, and Maddox Yates; great-great-grandson, Jackson Crane; and several nieces and nephews. Freda was predeceased by sister, Rose Phillips.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at Hope Chapel, 75 Lamb Dr., Westminster, MD, with Pastor Donnie Henss officiating. (For those unable to attend, services will be live streamed at https://www.facebook.com/MDFHWestminster). Burial will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Taneytown. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. In honor of Freda, the family encourages everyone to wear something blue, her favorite color.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Freda’s name to LifePoint Church, 1701 Emory Rd., Reisterstown, MD 21136. Arrangements have been entrusted to Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Taneytown, MD.
