Fred Walter Peters, 74, of Taneytown died Sunday, October 7, 2012 at York Hospital in York, PA. Born February 14, 1938 in Berlin, Germany, he was the son of the late Walter and Wilimene Goldman Petzsche. He was the husband of Elsie Rickour Peters, his wife of 43 years.
Fred was an auto mechanic and worked for several different dealerships over the years. He retired from Mount St. Mary’s University after serving 15 years as Head of the Maintenance Department. He was a member of Keysville Evangelical Lutheran Church. Fred escaped from East Berlin, Germany in 1958 and came to the United States in 1961. He served in the United States Army from 1963-1965 in Korea and became a U.S. citizen in1967. He was a certified scuba diver and loved photography, gardening, animals, and making children happy.
Surviving in addition to his wife are sons, David Peters and wife, Donna, of Farmville, VA, Michael Peters and wife, Karen, of Taneytown, and Eric Peters and wife, Karin, of Spotsylvania, VA; 10 grandchildren, David, Timothy, Tonya, Lori, Michael, Brandon, Andrea, Joshua, Colton, and Cody; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews in Germany, England, and the States.
A memorial service to celebrate Fred’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 17 at Keysville Evangelical Lutheran Church, 7301 Keysville Rd., Keymar, MD with Deacon Charles E Barnhart, Jr. officiating.
