Fred Leroy Hawk, 74, of Taneytown, MD, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at his residence in Taneytown. Born August 10, 1943 in Gettysburg, PA he was the son of the late Earl and Ruth (Bollinger) Hawk. He was the loving husband of Helen (Morningstar) Hawk.
Fred was a veteran who served in the United States Air Force. He was given his orders and reported to Fort Yukon Alaska NORAD Air Command base in 1963. Fred was stationed in both France and England before his honorable discharge in 1967. He worked for 36 years at the Random House before his retirement. Fred loved being around people and most of all loved spending time with his family.
Surviving in addition to his wife are daughters Karen Simons and husband Rick of Taneytown, Tina Tolliver and Husband Scott of Virginia, Kelli King and husband Rob of Taneytown and, Theresa Karsteter and husband Paul of Pennsylvania. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren Stephanie and Kyle, Amanda and Brian, Tori and Chase, Tyler, Jordan, Zachary, Mackenzie, Page, Ruthie, and McKinley, as well as great-grandchildren Landon, Owen and, Connor. He is also survived by a brother Wayne and wife Rose Hawk of Florida and Sister Jane and husband Bruce Sprague of Thurmont.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am Saturday, December 30, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 44 Frederick St., Taneytown, MD, with Father John F. Lesnick officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday December 29 at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD from 2 to 4 pm and from 6 to 8 pm. There will be a Rosary service at 7:30pm at the Funeral home Friday the 29th.
