Franklin “Frank” M. Whitmer, Sr., age 73, of Manchester, Maryland, died peacefully on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland.
Born October 22, 1939 in Baltimore, Maryland he was the son of the late Franklin Ford Whitmer and Norma May (Detlof) Monroe. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Freda Virginia (Wise) Whitmer.
Frank was retired as a steel worker after 40 years with Eastern Stainless Steel in Baltimore. Following his retirement he enjoyed working as a charter bus driver with Rohrbaugh’s Charter Service in Manchester. He was an active member of Lifepoint Church in Reisterstown. He was an avid sports fan and loved crabbing, watching the Price is Right, playing card games, and swimming in his pool. He was most proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved spending time with them, especially sporting events.
Surviving in addition to his wife are children, Deb Renfro and husband Glenn of Hanover, PA, Frank Whitmer, Jr. and wife Dori of Union Bridge, and Barb Bridges and husband Randy of Taneytown; grandchildren, Tracey Willet and husband Josh, Heather Hanna and husband Chaz, Bryant Renfro and wife Kelli, Frank Whitmer, III, Rachel Whitmer, Daniel, Tyler, Joshua, and Natalia Bridges; great-grandchildren, Zach Willet, Hunter Renfro, Jasmine, Alyssa, and Kory Whitmer, Devin Brooks, Ava Rae Miller; sisters, Betty Popp of Bel Air, Fay Vedrani of Finksburg, Linda Goldys of Abington, and Joyce Straub of NE; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Janice Dauscs.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown with Pastor Joe Duke officiating. Interment will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Taneytown. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
