Francis Maurice “Buzz” Orndorff, 74, of Emmitsburg died peacefully Sunday, August 25, 2013 at his home. Born January 17, 1939 in Emmitsburg, he was the son of the late Maurice Anthony and Mary Irene Wivell Orndorff. He was the husband of Mary R. Little Orndorff, to whom he was married for 48 years.
Buzz worked for CJ Langerfelder & Sons Construction in Baltimore for 32 years and was a member of Operating Engineers Local #37. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Emmitsburg and a life-long member of the Blue Ridge Sportsmen’s Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, daily rides around the countryside, his pug dog Monique, and spending time with his friends and family.
Surviving in addition to his wife are children, Andy Mitchell and wife Kathy of Keymar, Tina Yingling and husband Steve of Fairfield, PA, Doug Mitchell and wife Barb of Fairfield, PA, and Brian Orndorff of Thurmont; brothers, Sterling Orndorff and wife Jean, and Clarence Orndorff and wife Louise, all of Emmitsburg; sisters, Dorothy Joy of Emmitsburg, and Pauline Orendorff of Littlestown, PA; sisters-in-law, Jane Orndorff and Teresa Orndorff, both of Emmitsburg; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Karl and Louie Orndorff; sisters, Margaret Williamson and Ethel Long; brothers-in-law, Jerry Joy, Steve Orendorff, and Leonard “Pappy” Long.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 29 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 47 DePaul St., Emmitsburg, MD with the Rev. Charles F. Krieg, C.M. as celebrant. At the family’s request, there will be no visitation at the funeral home and burial will be private.
