Floyd Wilbur Devilbiss

Floyd Wilbur Devilbiss, age 85, of Uniontown, Maryland, died suddenly on Thursday morning October 29, 2009 at his home.
Born August 20, 1924 in Tyrone, Maryland, he was the son of the late Wilbur Henry and Blanche M. (Hahn) Devilbiss. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Anna Marie (Arnold) Devilbiss.
Floyd was a lifelong resident of Uniontown, Maryland. He was a former member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and Sunday School in Uniontown, and was confirmed in the faith in 1933. He was an active member by serving on the church council, as property committee chair, as well as serving in the church choir and the altar guild. He has been a member of St. Luke’s (Winters) Lutheran Church in New Windsor, Md., since 2000. Beginning in the 1940’s, Floyd was in partnership with his father W. H. Devilbiss & Son, then in 1979 as owner/operator of Devilbiss Trucking until his retirement in 1994. He was well known for his training of tractor-trailer drivers. Following his retirement from trucking, he began driving special needs and regular school bus runs for Rill’s Bus Service in Westminster to the present. In October of 2003, he became an associate with the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home. He was a lifetime member with Friends of the Village at Carroll Lutheran Village, and in May 2003 received his 10 year Certificate of Appreciation, in 2004 received the President’s Bronze Volunteer Service Award, and in March of 2006, received the F.O.V. Volunteer of the Year Award.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are daughter, Emily L. Oliver and husband Robert H. of Monroe, La.; grand-daughter, Lynn Talbert of Uniontown; sister, Mary Zepp and husband Levine of Union Mills, Md.; uncles, Harry Hahn of Emmitsburg, Md., and James Hahn of Keysville, Md. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was pre-deceased by an infant daughter, Hilda Louise Devilbiss, and by a brother, H. Eugene Devilbiss.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, on Monday, November 2, 2009 at St. Luke’s (Winter’s) Lutheran Church, Rt. 75, 701 Green Valley Rd., New Windsor, with his pastor the Rev. Anne C. Durboraw officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Uniontown. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St. in Taneytown and on Monday from 10 AM until the time of service at the church.
