Florence Ellen Hobbs, 76, of Fairfield, PA, died peacefully on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born August 22, 1940 in Thurmont, MD, she was the daughter of the late Guy and Sarah (Grabill) Ridenour. She was the wife of James Hobbs, Sr., to whom she was married to for 58 years.
Florence was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Emmitsburg, MD. She enjoyed cooking, baking, playing BINGO, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to her husband are children, Debra Himes, James Hobbs, Jr. and wife Joan, and David Hobbs, all of Fairfield, PA, Susan Weston and husband Wes of Harpers Ferry, WV, Andrew Hobbs and fiancé Susan King of Emmitsburg, MD, and Stephen Hobbs and wife Angela of Fairfield, PA; 2 grandsons that were raised as her children, Robert Herr, Jr. and wife Lisa and Christopher Herr and wife Tara, all of Fairfield, PA; 2 sisters, Mae Fogle and husband Leroy, and Doris Ott, all of Emmitsburg; a brother, Guy Ridenour and wife Glenda of Emmitsburg; 10 grandchildren, RJ, Nicole, Derrick, Dalton, Hope, Kaitlyn, Zach, Haley, Brooke, and Nathan; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by daughter, Barbara Herr, and 9 siblings, Helen, Clarence, William, Frank, James, Mary, Nancy, Olia, and Charles.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 29, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 47 DePaul St., Emmitsburg, MD, 21727, with the Rev. John J. Holliday, C.M. as celebrant. Interment will follow at New St. Joseph Cemetery. The family will receive family and friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, MD.
