Fidel Efrain Gamarra, 84, of Gaithersburg, Maryland died Sunday, August 31, 2014 at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville, MD. Born April 24, 1930 in Peru, he was the son of the late David and Rudecinda Gamarra. He was the husband of Graciela Gamarra.
Fidel was a Chief of Police in Peru prior to his retirement. He attained the rank of Colonel during his career and always made accommodations to have his wife and family with him when assignments required that he be away from home for long periods of time. He enjoyed reading and was a gifted story teller. He was an advocate for helping and serving others all throughout his life.
Surviving in addition to his wife are 6 children, Cesar, Efrain, Richard, Medalid, Dennis, and Tzeitel; 9 grandchildren, Jorge Alonso, Nathalie, Daniel, Dennis, Andy, Richard Joseph, Brandon, Samantha, and Dennis Erwin; a sister, Rene Gamarra; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, September 6, 2014 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 20020 Montgomery Village Ave., Montgomery Village, MD. Interment will follow at All Souls Cemetery in Germantown. The family will receive friends 6-9 p.m. Friday at the church.
