Faye Evelyn Newcomer, 97, of Gettysburg, PA, formerly of Taneytown, MD, died peacefully Monday, March 16, 2015 at Genesis Healthcare Center in Gettysburg. Born May 4, 1917 in Cumberland County, PA, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Zora Belle (Smith) Little. She was the wife of the late Emory Newcomer. He died in 1983.
Faye was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Heidlersburg, PA and the Masonic Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed cooking, baking, traveling, and spending time with her family.
Faye is survived by her daughter, Joanne Koontz of Gettysburg, PA; grandsons, Christopher Koontz and wife Melissa of Littlestown, PA, and Jonathan Koontz and wife Judy of Gettysburg, PA; sisters, Ruth Books of Dillsburg, PA, and Jean Burgoon of Texas; great-granddaughter, Alycia Fitzgerald and husband Tyler of Maryland; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by son-in-law, Carroll Koontz, who died in 2004; sisters, Hazel Miller, Velma Warner, and Gail Collins; and brother, Nile Little.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St, Taneytown, MD with the Rev. David W. Clark officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Gettysburg. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
