Eunice M. Neighbours

Eunice Margaret Neighbours, 90, of Emmitsburg died peacefully Sunday, December 9, 2012, at St. Catherine Nursing Center in Emmitsburg. Born November 5, 1922 in Adams County, PA, she was the daughter of the late James and Blanche Hartdagen Bouey. She was the wife of the late David L. Neighbours, who died in 1957.



Eunice was a graduate of St. Joseph Academy and worked as a bookkeeper for Potomac Edison in Taneytown for many years. During her marriage, she was the bookkeeper at the family business, Neighbours Esso Gas Station & Tire Sales. After her husband’s death, she continued with her duties there into the 1970s. She was a communicant of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She dearly loved the town of Emmitsburg and, in addition to being a business owner, she was a volunteer with Mother Seton School, St. Joseph High School, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Red Cross Bloodmobile, and Emmitsburg Senior Citizens.

Surviving are 4 children, Julie Muenzfeld and husband Andrew of Frederick, John Neighbours and wife Nancy of Little River, SC, Janis Waddell and husband Sam of Gettysburg, PA, and Joel Neighbours of Emmitsburg; 4 grandchildren, Peter Muenzfeld and wife Danielle, Chad Waddell and wife Tammy, Jessica Neighbours, and Stuart Neighbours and wife Lauren; 3 great-grandchildren, Luke and Heidi Waddell and Evan Neighbours; 2 sisters, Mary Bouey of Keedysville and Margaret Smith and husband Francis of Emmitsburg; 3 sisters-in-law, Gaylia Bouey of Olney, Ruth Gawle of Cape Cod, MA, and Margaret Henning of Salisbury; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 2 brothers and 2 sisters-in-law, Eugene Bouey, Allen Bouey and wife Mary, and Helen Stroup.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 13 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 47 DePaul St., Emmitsburg, MD with the Rev. John J. Holliday, C.M. as celebrant. Interment will follow at New St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 West Main St, Emmitsburg, MD. Prayers will be offered at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to one of the organizations mentioned above where Eunice volunteered much time.
