Eugene Hamilton Gill

July 17, 1926 — January 20, 2017

Eugene Hamilton Gill, 90, of Westminster, Maryland, went home to be with Jesus on Friday, January 20, 2017 at Carroll Hospital Center.

Born July 17, 1926 in Reisterstown, Maryland he was the son of the late Charles and Lottie Mae (Barnes) Gill.  He was predeceased by his loving wife, Virginia Irene (Haines) Gill in 2001.

Gene was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during W.W. II in the Pacific Theater.  He worked for 33 years with C & P Telephone retiring in 1984.  He attended Bethel Assembly of God in Littlestown, PA, and was a life-member of the American Legion, Post #31 in Westminster.  He enjoyed gardening, manicuring his lawn, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are his son, Eugene “Gene” Gill and wife Linda of Taneytown; daughter, Marsha Smith and husband Parker of New Windsor; grandchildren, J.P. Smith, Kelly Crawmer, Monica Powell, Paul Smith, Beth Wartluft, and Reuben Gill; 15 great-grandchildren; siblings, Edward “Brother” Gill and wife Sarah of PA, Charlotte Collins and husband Bill of Finksburg, Nancy Myers of Manchester, Emily Collins and husband Jerry of Finksburg, and Sally Phillips of Westminster.

He was predeceased by a brother, Charles “Duke” Gill.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 91 Willis St., Westminster, MD with Pastor Kevin Wartluft officiating.  Interment with military honors will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Finksburg.  The family will receive friends on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
