Esther Mae Gilmore

Esther Mae Gilmore, of Gettysburg, PA, passed April 1, 2023 at her home. Born June 7, 1945 in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Geraldine Armedda Smith. She was the devoted wife of over 47 years to John Warren Gilmore.

Esther was an accomplished cook, and spent over 45 years working at several restaurants. She loved being in the outdoors, especially fond of the mountains and birdwatching on her back porch. She loved living life, as her hobbies included; reading, bowling, and listening to music, her favorite being Elvis and 50’s music.

Esther is survived by her husband, John; children, Dawn and husband Brad Sechler of TX, Phillip Whitmore and girlfriend Diann of PA, Donna and husband Marc Haines of MD, Jill Gilmore of MD, Rick and wife Gracie Gilmore of MD, and Jim and wife Patty Hull of IA; grandchildren, Karley (Taylor) Cook, Valerie (Mike) Burns, Neal (Jessica) Haines, Kimberly (Ian) Smith-Fuentes, and Bradley (Chelsea) Gilmore; seven great grandchildren; and sister, Shelvia Fox.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Mike Whitmore; and grandson, Adam Gilmore.

Services will be private, per Esther’s request.
