Erma (Unger) Haifley

Erma Roberta Haifley, 96, of Westminster, MD died peacefully on Thursday, June 24, 2021 at Lorien in Taneytown, MD.  Born August 3, 1924 in Mayberry, MD, she was the daughter of the late Jesse David and Hester Roberta (Heltebridle) Unger.  She was the wife of the late Herbert Lee Haifley, Jr., her husband of 69 years.  He passed in 2013.

Erma was a graduate of Taneytown High School, class of 1942.  She worked in the Order Entry Department at Random House in Westminster for many years, retiring in 1992.  Prior to that, she worked at Leggett’s Department Store in Westminster.  She was a member of Grace United Church of Christ in Taneytown.  She enjoyed traveling, working word find books, spending time with her family and friends, and especially attending family get-togethers.

Surviving are her daughters, Linda Gronaw and husband Jim, and Nancy Sell and husband Paul, all of Westminster; 3 grandsons, Matthew Gronaw  and wife Julia of Hanover, PA, David Sell and companion Shannon Bowman of Westminster, MD, and Richard Sell and wife Angel of Littlestown, PA; 4 great-grandchildren, Elena and Abby Gronaw, Courtney Sell and companion Andrew Blasy, and Brennan Sell; and a great-great-granddaughter, Cynthia Rain Blasy; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD with the Rev. Steven Ostendorf officiating.  For those unable to attend, the service will be livestreamed at https://www.facebook.com/MDFHWestminster.  Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery at Silver Run.  The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 28th at the funeral home.
