Elva Mae O’Brien, 90, of Emmitsburg, MD died peacefully Monday, November 16, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Ministries in Emmitsburg. Born October 21, 1925 near Taneytown, she was the daughter of the late William and Violet Wetzel Valentine. She was the wife of the late Stanley O’Brien, to whom she was married for nearly 52 years.
Elva was a graduate of Emmitsburg High School, class of 1943. She worked as a clerk doing data input for the State of Delaware for several years. She was of the Catholic faith. Elva enjoyed shopping, dancing, taking drives, playing cards, wearing jewelry, dressing up for Halloween, and spending time with her family.
Surviving are daughters, Donna Mae Shiles and husband Millard of North East, MD, and Linda Paulette Stonesifer and husband Paul of Emmitsburg; brother, Franklin Valentine and wife Margaret of Hagerstown; 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sister, Pauline Sharrer, and brother, James Paul Valentine.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 21, 2015 at MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 210 W. Main St, Emmitsburg, MD with the Rev. Charles F. Krieg, C.M. officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Tabor Cemetery in Rocky Ridge. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home.
