Elsie Mary Thomas

Elsie M. Thomas, 96, passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2022. A long-time resident of Westminster, MD, she spent her last few years living with family in Hanover, PA.

She was born April 22, 1926, in Rosedale, MD in Baltimore County to William and Elsie (Little) Thomas. She is survived by her dear sister Genevieve Diegel and was predeceased by brothers Walter (Buzz) Thomas, William Thomas, Henry Thomas, Robert Thomas, and sisters Nellie Brooks, Catherine Gow, Anna Walter, and Ellen Shay.

She was an avid equestrian in her younger years, riding, jumping, and showing horses. She later raised Tennessee Walking horses on her farm in Westminster. She owned her own business and had a self-made career in real estate that spanned more than four decades in and around Carroll County, MD.

Though she never married or had any children, she loved and cared for her many nieces and nephews and as the years went on, great nieces and great nephews. As a strong independent woman, she served as a role model to all those around her and was extremely supportive of her family and many close friends.

A memorial service will be held at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, P.A., 91 Willis Street, Westminster, MD 21157 on Thursday, July 21, 2022, at 4:00 PM.

Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Silver Run, MD in a private event to be held at a later date.
