Elsie Marie Burton, age 98, of Catonsville, Maryland, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Born July 26, 1917 in Huntington, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Thomas E. and Elsie (Ash) Holderby. She was predeceased by her husband, William E. Burton in 1979.
Elsie was an avid aviary woodcarver and a member of the Annapolis Woodcarvers Association. She attended the chapel at Charlestown Retirement Community, where she resided since 1999.
Surviving are a son, William Patrick Zent-Burton and wife Rhonda of Westminster; daughter-in-law, Joan Burton of Glen Burnie; grandchildren, Robert Burton and wife Carolyn, Kate Hambly and husband Daryl, Zachary Burton and wife Stephany, Madison Zent-Burton, Chaeli Cantwell, and Samantha Cantwell and fiancée Javier Miranda Schelmetty; great-grandsons, Jaxson Burton and Diego Miranda-Cantwell; nieces, Tish Horney, Carol Cordis and Betsy Smith; nephew, Tom Holderby; close friends, Robin Thompson and Jeff Ring. She was predeceased by a son, Thomas James Burton and by siblings, Dainty McCallister, “Sis” Holderby, Lester and Chester Holderby.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2016 in the chapel of Charlestown Retirement Community, 715 Maiden Choice Lane, Catonsville with Pastor Gary Hajek officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service. A reception will follow the memorial service. Interment will be private in Arlington National Cemetery.
