Elsie Catherine Bowen

Elsie Catherine (Ellis) Bowen, age 87, of Westminster, died on Monday, April 30, 2012 at the Levindale Geriatric Center and Hospital in Baltimore. Born October 1, 1924 in Richmond, Virginia she was the daughter of the late John Henry and Florence Lyle (Peers) Ellis. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Edward Bowen, Sr.
She retired as an administrative assistant at the A & P Tea Co. Following retirement she worked at the Reliable Appliance Co. and as an aide with Schafer Bus Co. both in Hampstead. She was very active in the Seventh-day Adventist church, volunteering as an aide at the Crest Lane School in Westminster, conducting bible studies, prayer meetings, and serving as prayer coordinator for the church. Elsie was an avid reader, and loved flower gardening, cooking and entertaining, and music.
Surviving are daughter, Carole Virginia (Bowen) Smith and son-in-law, Roland Meredith Smith; and son, Frank Edward Bowen, Jr. all of Westminster; grandchildren, Deborah Michelle (Smith) Serrano and husband Samir David Serrano, David Matthew Beaman Smith and wife Wendy Ladelle (Carter) Smith, and Dana Marie (Smith) West and husband Martin Keith West; great-grandchildren, Katelynn Rose, Caleb Joshua, Rose Catalina, and Liliana Marie Serrano, Dexter Matthaeus Bastion, Carter Heinrich Bowen, Alexa Ladelle, and Katherine Isabella Smith; brothers, Robert Alton Ellis of Mt. Airy and Stuart Leigh Ellis of Parkville.
She was predeceased by a great-granddaughter, Dawn Ashlee West and sister, Lois Mae Requard.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at the Westminster Seventh-day Adventist Church, 320 Crest Lane, Westminster with Pastor Frank Bondurant officiating. Private interment will be in Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery in Owings Mills.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Crest Lane School, 324 Crest Lane, Westminster, MD 21157.
Arrangements are by the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Westminster.
