Elmer Cleveland Black

Elmer Cleveland Black, 84, of Taneytown, MD, died on December 31, 2024, at Lorien Taneytown, surrounded by his loving family. Born January 31, 1940, he was son of the late Benjamin Franklin Black, and Alice Virginia Hossler Black. He was the beloved husband of 34 years to Mary Robertson Black.

Elmer grew up in farming, worked for the Maryland State Highway Administration, and Union Bridge Volunteer Fire Company, and was a lifelong member of Harney VFW, and Littlestown Eagles Post 2226. In his spare time, he enjoyed listening to WTTR Westminster Radio, watching news and sports, and was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Mary, are step-children, John Black Jr. (Brenda Joy), and Stacy Black Hann (Paul Sr.), both of Taneytown; and 5 step-grandchildren. Elmer was predeceased by all of his siblings, Helen Virginia Black Utz, Anna M Black Burdette, Benjamin F Black Jr., Harry Allan Black, Betty Jane Black Grossnickle, Dorothy Viola Black Boone, John W Black Sr., and Nancy Louise Black Lescalleet.

A funeral service honoring Elmer’s memory will be held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, January 7, 2024, at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, P.A., 136 E Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD 21787, with Pastor David L. Meador officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of the service, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Beaver Dam Church of the Brethren Cemetery in Union Bridge.
