Ellen E. White, age 85 of Emmitsburg, passed away Sunday, February 14, 2010 peacefully with her family by her side. She was born April 14, 1924 in Richfield Springs, NY the daughter of the late Frank and Sadie Horan Meehan. She worked in management for the U.S. Department of Defense at Ft. Richie.
She was a loving mother to five children, Kristine Ellinger of McMinnville, OR, James T. White and wife, Beth of Lake George, NY, Mary Ellen White of Walkersville, MD, Robert A. White and wife, Jennifer of Emmitsburg, MD and Marc S. White of Murrells Inlet, SC; grandchildren, Meeghan O’Toole White, Robert Alan White, Jr., David Lee Haller and Sarah White; brother, Thomas Meehan of Las Vegas, NV.
She was predeceased by brother, James Meehan and son-in-law, Bart Ellinger.
She was married to the late George O. White who was in the service until his death in 1975. During her lifetime she traveled with their family to many interesting places including Alaska and Germany where she learned to be a great cook. In 1969 she moved to Emmitsburg, Maryland with her family.
Ellen was a history buff and loved to talk about politics. Her knowledge of history and political science made for interesting conversation among her family and friends. Ellen was a loving and giving person who enjoyed hours of conversation with anyone. She also loved to watch almost all sports events with her family.
She looked forward to family vacations in Lake George, New York, McMinnville (near Mt. Hood) and Pawley’s Island, South Carolina.
The family will receive friends Thursday 6:00-8:00 PM at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 W. Main Street, Emmitsburg with Rosary Prayers at 7:30 P.M.
A memorial Mass will be held Friday 11:00 A.M. at St. Anthony Shrine Parish, 16150 St. Anthony Road, Emmitsburg with Rev. Michael J. Kennedy, C.M. as celebrant.
She will be laid to rest next to her husband, and family in Richfield Springs, New York.
