Ellen Elizabeth Martz, 99, of Emmitsburg, MD died peacefully on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Ministries in Emmitsburg.  Born September 24, 1918 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Alvin and Anna (Zapf) Martz.

Ellen grew up in the Rosedale neighborhood of Baltimore.  She was a graduate of Seton High School in Baltimore and St. Joseph’s College in Emmitsburg.  She worked as a Public Affairs secretary at Cargill from 1941 until her retirement.  She resided in Washington, D.C. in the same apartment, located across the street from the National Cathedral, for over 40 years.  She never married and never learned to drive.  It was always Ellen’s dream to retire in Emmitsburg to be with her sisters and friends.  She spent much of her time during retirement volunteering at St. Catherine’s Nursing Center.  She also enjoyed traveling with her friends all around the world.  She was healthy to the end, a generous and kind sister and aunt who dearly loved her only brother, Warren, and his family.

Surviving are nephew, Stephen Michael Martz and his wife, Deborah Crescenzo Martz of Carrollton, TX; and their son, Andrew Michael Martz, also of Carrollton, TX.  She was predeceased by her brother, Warren Alvin Martz and his wife, Lucy Vicino Martz.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 47 DePaul St., Emmitsburg, MD with the Rev. Charles F. Krieg, C.M. as celebrant.  Interment at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Dundalk, MD will be private.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Emmitsburg.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Ministries, 331 S. Seton Ave., Emmitsburg, MD, 21727.
