Elizabeth “Betty” Clukey Baker, 87, of Buckingham’s Choice, Adamstown, Maryland, died peacefully surrounded by her loving and devoted family on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at home.
Born on July 13, 1930 in Dexter, Maine, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Rosa (Mountain) Clukey. She is survived by her husband, Robert “Bob” L. Baker.
Betty began her thirty-year civil service career in September, 1948 with the Department of Labor in Washington, D.C. Since then, she has held various positions with the Department of Agriculture, Walter Reed Army Medical Center, and the Department of the Air Force. She retired from the U.S. Air Force, Civilian Personnel Center, Randolph Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas, in January 1988 as the Chief of Personnel Support. She was a devout Catholic and was a communicant of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Emmitsburg, and invested as a Lady of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem.
Surviving in addition to her husband are children, Teresa, Kevin, Robert, Ann, Susan, Marie, Sandra, and Michael; brother Louis and sister-in-law, Nancy Clukey; brother-in-law, Bill Keyte; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren.
She was pre-deceased by siblings, Viola Keyte, Deanna Tarr, Lloyd and Leonard Clukey.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 25, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 47 DePaul St., Emmitsburg with Rev. John Melmer as celebrant and Rev. Charles F. Krieg, C.M. concelebrant. Burial will follow in New St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Emmitsburg. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, with a Christian Wake service at 7:30 p.m.
