Elizabeth "Beth" Sparks

Elizabeth “Beth” H. Sparks, age 84, of New Windsor, Maryland, died on Sunday, August 19, 2012 at Greater Baltimore Medical Center in Towson, Maryland.
Born February 27, 1928 in Evergreen, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late Marvin A. and Winona (Simmons) Hanks. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, George O. Sparks, Jr.
Beth was a graduate of Evergreen H.S. and the University of Alabama where she and her future husband “Sparky” would meet in an accounting class. She was an accountant for many years and also worked as a real estate agent with Grempler, Long & Foster, and the Billingslea Agencies of Carroll County. She was an avid University of Alabama Fan and member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, the Baltimore Chapter of Women Accountants Association, past treasurer of the MD State Garden Clubs, and past president of the Carroll County Garden Club. Beth loved gardening, flowers, and was very involved with her children’s school activities.
Surviving in addition to her husband are children, Rebecca W. Sparks of Lafayette, California, and George “Buddy” O. Sparks, III and wife Marcy of Jarrettsville, MD; granddaughters, Lauren A. Grasmick, Samantha J. Smith; grandson, Tyler J. Sparks; great-granddaughter, Delylah A. Grasmick; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, Marvin A. Hanks, Jr.
The family will receive family and friends on Saturday, August 25, 2012 from 3:00 PM until the time of a Memorial Service at 5:00 PM at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster, MD with Rev. Walter W. Peters officiating. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Presbyterian Home for Children, P.O. Drawer 577, Talladega, AL. 35161.
