Elizabeth M. Gosselin

February 15, 1926 — March 12, 2017

Elizabeth M. Gosselin, 91, of Woodbine, MD, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, March 12, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.  Born February 15, 1926 in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Agnes Mergner.  She was the devoted wife of the late Robert L. Gosselin, to whom she was married for 61 years.

Elizabeth was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, painting, antiquing, reading, and spending time with her family.  She loved being on the “Farm,” and she loved flying.  One of her most treasured accomplishments was earning her pilot’s license, which she acquired November 13, 1947 at the School of Aeronautics, Congressional Airport in Rockville, MD.  Elizabeth was of the Catholic faith, and formerly attended St. Louis Catholic Church in Clarksville, MD.

She is survived by five daughters, Linda Stoker and husband John of Carlisle, PA, Mary Chwastyk and husband Charles of Laytonsville, MD, Michele Gosselin and partner Frank Brady of Reisterstown, MD, Karen Fincham and husband Bruce of Sykesville, MD, and Denise Ashwell and husband Dale of Woodbine, MD; brother, John Mergner of Bethesda, MD; grandchildren, William Freeman and wife Lynn of Westminster, Robert Freeman and wife Erin of Taneytown, Christopher Newsom and wife Suzanne of New Market, Heather Fenner of Manchester, Robert Fincham and wife Jennifer of New Windsor, Dale Ashwell III and wife Mary of Mt. Airy, Ashley Chwastyk of Los Angeles, CA, and Rebecca Neal of Reisterstown; 24 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by sister, Helena Kedda, brothers, Fred and Henry Mergner, and granddaughter, Jennifer Ashwell.

A private graveside service and inurnment will be held at a later date at St. Louis Church Cemetery in Clarksville, MD.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME in Westminster.  Memorial contributions may be made to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD, 21157.
