Elizabeth "Betty" Brigante

Elizabeth Mary “Betty” Brigante, 91, of Emmitsburg, Maryland, formerly of Port Chester, NY, died peacefully February 13, 2013 at St. Catherine Nursing Center in Emmitsburg. Born August 10, 1921 in Chestnut Ridge, PA, she was the daughter of the late John and Frances Chordach Berecz. She was the wife of the late Frank Brigante who died in 1961.



Elizabeth worked for Bell Telephone Company as an operator for more than thirty years. She was a life-long member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Parish in Port Chester. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, growing roses, and spending time with family and friends.



Surviving are sons, Wayne Brigante and wife, Cathy, of Elk, WA, and John Brigante and wife, Cynthia, of Woodbine, MD; sisters, Helen Prokop and Ethel Valente, both of Hillar, PA; 9 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters, Barbara Masella and Susan Berecz, and brother, John Berecz.



The family will receive friends 1-2 p.m., Saturday, February 16 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, 260 Westchester Ave, Port Chester, NY. There will be no visitation in NY. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Rye Brook, NY. Arrangements in New York are by Gunipero-Farenga Funeral Home in Port Chester.
