Elaine Marie Ernst, age 81, of Westminster, Maryland, died on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at the Golden Living Center in Westminster. Born July 9, 1927 in River Rouge, MI, she was the daughter of the late Victor and Elsie (Gruenwald) Katterman. She was predeceased by her husband, Ray Ernst.
Elaine was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Taneytown. She also participated in the Church of the Open Door's Sr. Choir in Westminster.
Surviving are children, Linda DeCarlo and husband Frank of Westminster, Larry Ernst and wife Cheryl of Sothbury, Ct., Loren Ernst and wife Lynda of Charlotte, NC, Lance Ernst and wife Carol of Columbia, MD, a sister, Mildred Mehlhorn of Detroit, MI; a brother, Derald Katterman of Detroit, MI; grandchildren, Kevin, Eric, Bryan, Alex, Tina, Nathan, and Kristin, great-granddaughter, Isabella.
She was predeceased by a sister, Helen Kaiser.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 PM, on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Taneytown, with the Rev. Charles Frederick, interim pastor officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends immediately following the services in the fellowship hall of the church.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 38 W. Baltimore St., Taneytown, Maryland 21787.
