Edward Everett Hess, 87, of Taneytown, Maryland died Sunday, February 15, 2009 at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown, Maryland.
Born August 9, 1921 in Taneytown, he was the son of the late Ralph Everett and Edna Viola Harner Hess. He was the husband of the late Betty Virginia Shankle Hess who died in February, 2007.
He was a farmer, worked as a mechanic for John Deere of Kingsdale, PA., and was a tool and dye maker at Black & Decker in Hampstead, Maryland. He was retired from Random House Publishing Company in Westminster. He enjoyed wood carving, playing cards and traveling.
He was a life-long member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Taneytown. He was a member of Monocacy Masonic Lodge 203 and the Boumi Shriners of Baltimore. He attained the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, 32nd degree and belonged to the Western Maryland Shrine Club of Boumi Temple and the Carroll Scottish Rite Club, 32nd degree.
Survivng are daughters and sons-in-law Terrie & Jacob Hendricks of Hagerstown, Maryland and Debra & Carl Rutherford of Virginia Beach, Virginia; grandson, Andrew Hendricks; and step-grandchildren, Claudia Bennett and Carl Rutherford, Jr. He was predeceased by a sister, Charlotte E. Shorb.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 19 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 38 W. Baltimore St., Taneytown with the Rev. Charles Frederick and the Rev. Blaine Feightner officiating. Interment will follow in Trinity Lutheran Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the church. A service of Masonic rites will be observed at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
