Edna H. Blakeslee, 89, of Thurmont, MD, formerly of Old Bridge, NJ, died peacefully Monday, February 2, 2015 at Gettysburg Hospital in Gettysburg, PA. Born July 22, 1925 in Jersey City, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Amanda Hansen. She was the wife of the late Maurice “Jack” Blakeslee.
Edna was a homemaker and devoted mother and grandmother. She served as a School Crossing Guard for 25 years in Old Bridge, NJ, and in retirement, took on the role of Volunteer Manager of the Christ Church Thrift Store in South Amboy, NJ. In more recent years she was an active member of the Thurmont Senior Citizens Center and was a participant in the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are son, Bill Blakeslee and special friend Carol Robertson of Thurmont; daughter, Ellen Howard and husband Bob of Toms River, NJ; grandchildren, Jennifer Blakeslee of Frederick, MD, Tracy Haberman and husband Brian of Weston, CT, Meredith Jackstadt and husband Marc of Barnegat, NJ, Kimberly Howard of East Hanover, NJ, Megan Blakeslee and fiancé Tommy Hoyt of Thurmont, MD, Jared Blakeslee and wife Tomika of Hagerstown, MD, Caitlin Blakeslee and fiancé Joseph Rose of Bethlehem, PA, and Kirsten Blakeslee of Bethlehem, PA; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She is also remembered by special family friend, Dottie Kos. She was predeceased by daughter, Susan Blakeslee-Cobb, and sister, Irene Whipple.
A memorial service to celebrate Edna’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 7 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St, Emmitsburg, MD. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until the time of the service. Interment will be private.
