E. Leroy Wantz

E. LeRoy Wantz, 89, of Westminster, died Saturday, January 1, 2011 at the Carroll Hospital Center.
Born September 19, 1921 in Pleasant Valley, he was the son of the late Elmer J. Wantz and Elsie C. Starner Wantz. His wife of 42 years, Marie M. Beaver Wantz, predeceased him in July 1990.
Leroy assisted his dad with farming until age 16 when he and his father both worked for Carrollton Hounds. He was drafted into the Army in 1941 and did a tour of duty which enabled him to be in France on D Day in 1944 on Omaha Beach. He was discharged and returned home on Christmas Eve 1945. He was employed by Hall and Anderson Chrysler Plymouth, James & Barnsley Dodge & Plymouth and worked 32 years as an auto mechanic for Bohn Pontiac before his retirement. He was a member of Meadow Branch Church of the Brethren and the Westminster Moose. He enjoyed dancing and Bingo and lived life to the fullest.
Surviving is a daughter and son-in-law, Bonita “Bonny” M. and Edward Hale of Westminster and son and daughter-in-law, Steven L. and Renee Wantz of Westminster; sister, LaRue C. Rodkey of Tyrone; 6 grandchildren, Michelle M. Williford, and Bradley, Cristina, Joseph, Jacob and Grace Wantz and 1 great granddaughter, Macy Williford; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Margaret Koontz, Edna Bauerlien, Fannie VanFossen, May Sheely, Gladys Bauerlien and Elvy Lawson and brothers, Norman and Melvin Wantz; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Hale.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis Street, Westminster, with his nephew, Reverend Doug Wantz officiating. Burial will follow in Meadow Branch Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 3-5 and 7-9 PM.
