Douglas Joseph Knox, 37, of Taneytown, Maryland died unexpectedly on Monday, February 7, 2011 at his home. Born July 4, 1973 in Ft. Campbell, Kentucky, he was the son of Donald Joseph & Dawn Elizabeth (Fitzgerald) Knox of Taneytown.
He was a 1991 graduate of Delone Catholic High School in McSherrystown, PA, and a 2003 graduate of Towson State University graduating Cum Laude. He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Taneytown where he was very active in Religious education; currently teaching the 7th and 8th grade 2012 confirmation class. He was an active 3rd Degree member and former treasurer of the St. Joseph Taneytown Council of Knights of Columbus #11631, and in January 2011 he was named the Knight of the Month. He was also a 4th Degree member of the Cardinal Gibbons Assembly of the Knights. Doug was a Eucharistic Minister and Lector at the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Basilica located on the grounds of the St. Joseph Provincial House in Emmitsburg. He loved music and was a self-taught organist, like his grandmother Florence Knox who predeceased him in 2010, and guitar player. Doug also enjoyed telling ghost stories and tails; and was a guide for the Ghosts of Gettysburg tours. Currently Doug was working in the electronics department at the Westminster Wal-Mart.
Surviving in addition to his parents, are maternal grandparents, Donald “Mike” and Doris J. (Wastler) Fitzgerald of Thurmont; sister, Angela Dawn Knox of Syracuse, N.Y.; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 44 Frederick St., Taneytown, Maryland with the Rev. Stephen Trzecieski, C.M. as celebrant. Interment will follow in the St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery at the Grotto of Lourdes, in Emmitsburg. The family will receive friends on Friday from 2-4 and 6-9 PM at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 East Baltimore St., Taneytown, Maryland.
