Dorothy "Dot" (Harman) Lefevre

January 29, 1919 — January 22, 2021

Taneytown

Dorothy (Dot) Harman LeFevre passed away peacefully on Friday, January 22, 2021, a week before her 102nd birthday, at her home in Taneytown. She was proud to have been a life-long resident of Carroll County. She was a graduate of St. John’s High School and McDaniel College (Western Maryland), both in Westminster. Her passion for music also led her to study vocal music privately at the Peabody Institute in Baltimore.

Her teaching career began in Boonsboro, Maryland and, in later years, continued closer to home at Uniontown and New Windsor, where she taught grades 5 and 6 until retirement. Students sought her out remembering her wit, wisdom, kind discipline, and classroom ambiance.

In addition to her teaching career, she directed choir for many years at the Westminter Church of the Brethern. Through music and the choir, she experienced tremendous life-long joy.

She married James Duttera LeFevre in 1940, and together they had two daughters: Christine LeFevre and Lynn LeFevre Lindsay. Dorothy enjoyed international travel, often with former teachers, relishing both adventure and camaraderie. Her favorite memories were the home-stays in New Zealand and Scandinavia. She cherished collecting antiques, especially her patterned-glass. And her volunteer work.

Dorothy was the only child of Ester Lemmon Harman and Elwood G. Harman, but part of a large family circle of aunts, uncles, and cousins. Family remained important to her and was kept alive through her stories. She will be remembered for family gatherings, good food, and conversation.

She is survived by Christine LeFevre of Palm Harbor, FL; Lynn Lindsey (Richard) of Westminster; and three grandchildren: Rachel Ludlow (Derek) of Westminster; Jesse Lindsey (Becky) of Freedom, MD; and Jennifer Smith-Yuen (Anson) of Seattle, WA. Her seven great-grandchildren include Abigail and Andrew Ludlow; Ben, Gabe, and Ryan Lindsay; and Kai and Han Yuen.

A family memorial service is planned for summer, 2021.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME in Taneytown.
