Dorothy Ellen Hostetter

Dorothy Ellen Hostetter, nee Lookingbill, 97 of Taneytown, passed away suddenly Friday, February 7, 2025 at the Gettysburg Hospital. Born Monday, July 4, 1927 in Littlestown, PA, she was the daughter of the late George and Edna Lookingbill, nee LeGore; Beloved wife of Samuel Palmer Hostetter, her husband of 60 years, who passed away in 2005; devoted mother of her 4 children, Samuel Palmer Hostetter, Jr. and his wife Yayoi, Barry Jason Hostetter and his wife Dr. Rita Falcone, Jayne Ellen Bowers, Kenneth Loyd Hostetter and his wife Christine; cherished grandmother of Jobeth Bowers and his wife Sydney, John Bowers, and Dylan Hostetter; special great-grandmother of Amelia and William; and fond sister of Charlotte Pauline Lookingbill. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her 4 brothers, Francis, Glenn, Charles, and Earl Lookingbill.

She was a 1943 graduate of the Taneytown High School and then attended the Baltimore Business School. She had worked for years for Random House as scheduler in the computer department. She was member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and in her spare time she especially enjoys playing BINGO, quilting, and working in her flower and vegetable gardens.

The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Friday, February 14th, 2025 at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, P.A., 136 East Baltimore Street, Taneytown (21787) and 10-11 a.m., Saturday at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 44 West Baltimore Street, Taneytown (21787) where the funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. in the main sanctuary with her pastor the Rev. Stacy Marsh officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Hostetter’s name to the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 44 West Baltimore Street, Taneytown, Maryland 21787.
