Born in Wolf Point, Montana Dorothy spent most of her youth in Baltimore, Maryland. She was the daughter of Bessie Gordon Roop and David John Roop.
After completing an accelerated middle school program, she graduated from the Eastern High School at the age of sixteen.
She attended the University of Maryland where she met and married G. Clinton Brookhart Sr. They raised their four children in Harrisburg, PA.
Throughout her entire life she was dedicated to numerous philanthropic organizations. Dorothy was a proud and active long term member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
For her entire life she was actively involved in the church. She had a passion for history. A constant reader and student, she became well versed on a broad range of subjects. Her children and grandchildren will always remember her for her remarkable wealth of information. Dorothy was the family’s authority in geneology and compiled extensive records through decades of research.
She is survived by her son G. Clinton Brookhart Jr. and his wife Marilyn of Littleton, Colorado; daughter Dr Jean Case and her husband Dr. David Case of Bronxville, New York; daughter Barbara Kahwaty and her husband Victor Kahwaty of Waltham, Massachusetts; and daughter Mary Beth Brookhart-Oakley of Holyoke, Massachusetts. She leaves nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren and many devoted nieces and nephews
She was predeceased by siblings Gordon Roop, Phyllis Little, and
Charlotte Keefer-Gonder.
The family will receive friends from 1:00PM to 4:00PM on Sunday July 12th at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis Street, Westminster, MD
Additional calling hours are on Monday July 13th from 10:00AM to 11:00AM at the Westminster Church of the Brethren, Bond Street and Park Place, Westminster Maryland 21157 followed by a service officiated by Pastor Twyla Rowe. The grave side service will be held at the Meadow Branch Cemetery.
A luncheon will follow at the Westminster Church of the Brethren Fellowship Hall.
