Dorothy V. Bauerlien, 98, of Westminster, MD, died Friday, January 31, 2025, surrounded by her loving children, at Lorien Taneytown. Born April 15, 1926, in Carroll County, she was the daughter of the late Denton and Hanna Marie (Harn) Haines. She was predeceased by her husband, John G. Bauerlien Jr. in 1991, and longtime companion, Floyd K. Schaffer in 2013.
Dorothy was retired from the Board of Education, worked as a cleaner for local laundromats, and was a member of Leister’s Church. She was a simple soul and enjoyed being with her family, all of whom enjoyed the routine of church, Sunday school, then time at grandma’s house. She loved children, BINGO, puzzles, and making friends at the Senior Center in Westminster.
Dorothy is survived by children; Judy, husband Perry Jones, of Union Bridge; Yvonne “Bonnie”, husband Charlie Simpson, of Westminster; and Dennis, wife Marie Bauerlien of Linthicum; grandchildren, Joni, Jeanne, Sherri, Stacie, Scott, Sindi, Shane, Joe, Brandy, Doug, Mandy, and Daniel; 31 great grandchildren; and 15 great-great grandchildren. Dorothy was predeceased by daughter, Dorothy M. Johnson; and siblings, Ralph Haines, Monroe “Bud” Haines, Naomi Haines, Evelyn Stair, Charlotte Dayhoff, Mary Forsythe, and Hilda Haines.
A Graveside Service honoring Dorothy’s memory will be held 2:00 PM, Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, 2800 Old Westminster Pike, Finksburg, MD 21048.
