Doris Florence Joy, 90, of Emmitsburg, MD died on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at Gettysburg Hospital. Born March 25, 1928 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Grant and Emma Grace (Miller) Long. She was the devoted wife of the late John Richard Joy.
Doris worked at Cambridge Rubber Company in Taneytown for 39 years as a hot knife cutter. She had many friends there, including two special friends, Erma Airing and Mary Toms. She was a member of Incarnation United Church of Christ in Emmitsburg. Doris loved watching her grandsons and great-grandson play baseball and her great-granddaughters play soccer. She enjoyed so very much spending time with her daughter, son-in-law and family.
Surviving are daughter, Deborah Valentine and husband Tim of Fairfield, PA; grandsons, Gene Valentine and wife Catherine and Nick Valentine, all of Fairfield, PA; great-grandson, Cody Valentine; great granddaughters, Breana, Ashlyn and Addisyn Valentine; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Long and Gloria Bauerline of Emmitsburg; brothers-in-law, Tom Hoke of Emmitsburg, Joseph Joy of Baltimore, Donald Joy and wife Bernadette of Westminster and Mike Joy and wife Pat of Emmitsburg; and many nieces and nephews. She is also remembered by her many friends at Lincoln on the Park. Doris was the last of her immediate family. She was predeceased by siblings, Beulah Motter, Evelyn Rohrbaugh, Ethel Hoke, and Leonard, Carl and Donald Long.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 2, 2018 at MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, MD with Funeral Celebrant, John Morrill officiating. Burial will follow at Emmitsburg Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
