Donald Lee Elower, 87, of Thurmont, MD passed away peacefully on Friday, August 18, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Ministries in Emmitsburg. Born April 20, 1930 in Thurmont, he was the son of the late Floyd Elmer and Margaret Kathleen (Weddle) Elower. He was the husband of Mildred (Snyder) Elower, to whom he was married for 67 years.
Donald owned and managed several Super Thrift Grocery Stores in Maryland and Pennsylvania over the years. He was District Manager for P.A.&S. Small, Inc. and Scrivner Food Service for several years. After retirement, he became a Greenskeeper at Clustered Spires Golf Course in Frederick. He enjoyed fishing, mowing, and spending time with his family.
Surviving are daughters, Linda Sicilia and husband Pete, and Karen Purcell and husband Steve, all of Thurmont, and Blasia Drumm and husband Matt of PA; daughter-in-law, Joan Elower of Emmitsburg; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Donald Wayne Elower.
A memorial service to celebrate Donald's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at Trinity United Church of Christ, 101 E. Main St., Thurmont, MD, with the Rev. Sean DeLawder officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME in Emmitsburg.
