Donald Lee Hofmeister, 76, of Taneytown, MD, died peacefully on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Hanover Hospital in Hanover, PA. Born July 17, 1939 in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Walter Leroy and Alma Elizabeth (Gardner) Hofmeister, Sr. He was the husband of Mary Patricia “Pat” Hofmeister, to whom he was married for 47 years.
Don was a Service Technician with IBM Corporation in Baltimore for 27 years. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Boston. He was a member of American Legion Hesson-Snider Post #120 in Taneytown, the Taneytown Lions Club, and was a life-long member of the USS Boston Shipmates. He was an avid fan of the Baltimore Orioles and the Baltimore Ravens. Don enjoyed traveling with his wife Pat, playing cards and dominos, having dinner out, and spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed woodworking, and made many treasured gifts for family members and friends.
Surviving in addition to his wife are daughters, Donna Furlan and husband Bryan of Harrisburg, PA, and Debora McDonald and husband Neil of Hanover, PA; brother, Walter Hofmeister, Jr. of Catonsville, MD; cherished grandson, Dalton McDonald; 2 nieces; and 1 nephew. He was predeceased by sister-in-law, Elizabeth Hofmeister.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD, with Deacon Darrell Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Randallstown. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
