Donald Wayne Elower, 61, of Emmitsburg, Maryland died peacefully Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster. Born July 21, 1953 in Frederick, he was the son of Donald L. and Mildred Snyder Elower of Thurmont. He was the husband of Joan Gelwicks Elower, to whom he was married for 39 years.
Donald worked as a Service Technician for Tri-County Pools in Thurmont, and later as a Fabricator at Emmitsburg Glass Company. He enjoyed target shooting, playing cards, splitting wood, vacationing in Florida and Tennessee, and in his younger days, playing soccer. He loved the outdoors and spending time with his family and his pet dog, Tia.
Surviving, in addition to his wife are sons, David Gelwicks and wife Michelle Wivell of Thurmont, and Donald Elower and wife Christine of Hong Kong; sisters, Linda Sicilia and husband Pete of Thurmont, Karen Purcell and husband Steve of Thurmont, and Blasia Drumm and husband Matt of Fayettesville, PA; grandchildren, David Gelwicks, and Daniell, Tia, and Russell Elower; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his in-laws, Earle and Donaldine Gelwicks.
The family will receive friends 11-12:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2015, at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St, Emmitsburg, MD. A funeral service and time of sharing will be held at 12:30 p.m. with Pastor Sean Delawder officiating. Interment will be private.
