Dolores Katherine (Gaudy) Cowen

December 8, 1927 — July 24, 2018

Dolores Katherine Cowen, 90, of Taneytown, MD died peacefully on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at Sun Valley at The Woods Assisted Living near Taylorsville, MD.  Born December 8, 1927 in Arnold, PA, she was the daughter of the late Dom and Pauline (Bia) Gaudy.  She was the wife of the late Thomas Arthur Cowen, to whom she was married for 70 years.

Dolores was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She was employed as a retail clerk for various department stores over the years.  She enjoyed reading, playing Bingo, playing cards, buying scratch-off tickets and listening to country music.  She and her late husband Tom enjoyed many retirement years in Florida before moving back to Maryland.

Surviving are her daughter, Paulette Atherton and husband Mike of Taneytown; her son, Christopher Cowen and wife Andrea of Mullica Hills, NJ; grandchildren, Thomas Atherton and wife Anna of Odenton, MD, and Alexander and Katherine Cowen of Mullica Hills, NJ; great-grandson, Landyn; and several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by all of her siblings, sisters, Polly Ewing, Ethel “Beb” Shamey and Donna Teichman; and her brother, Clarence Gaudy.

A private joint memorial service for Dolores and her beloved husband Tom will be held at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery in Owings Mills.  Arrangements have been entrusted to MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME in Taneytown, MD.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dolores’ name to Carroll Hospice Dove House, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD  21157.
