Diane Haggerty Summers, age 70, of Taneytown, Maryland died peacefully on Sunday, May 13, 2012 at home.
Born April 19, 1942 in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late James V. and Margaret Mary (Fitzpatrick) Haggerty.
She graduated in 1997 from Trinity College with a degree in Business Management. Diane worked for 37 years for the Food and Drug Administration in Facilities Management, retiring in 1997. She was a communicant of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Taneytown, a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and the Red Hats. In 2006, she helped to found the Taneytown chapter of the Relay for Life. Diane enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Surviving are a daughter, Jeanette Smith and husband Tom of Howell, N.J.; son, James Summers and wife Lisa of Sykesville, MD; grandchildren, Tom, Billy, and Joey Smith, Dustin and Amber Summers; a sister, Sr. Mary Vincent Haggerty, D.C. of Washington, D.C.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 44 Frederick St., Taneytown with Msgr. Martin E. Feild as celebrant. Interment will be private in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Taneytown. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7-9 PM at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown.
