Derek Lee Dunsmore, 18, of Emmitsburg, died unexpectedly Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at Gettysburg Hospital in Gettysburg, PA. Born August 4, 1994 in Gettysburg, he was the son of Geneva Naugle Elliott of Emmitsburg and Scott Dunsmore of Oswego, NY.
Derek was an avid New York Yankees and New York Giants fan. He enjoyed motocross and sprint car racing, collecting baseball cards, football cards, and diecast cars, especially Volkswagens. He was a hard and dependable worker and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Surviving in addition to his parents are sisters, Tori Bigham and husband Toby of Gettysburg, PA, and April Fogle of Littlestown, PA; brother, Scotty Dunsmore of Emmitsburg; paternal grandmother, Maryann Pennfield of Oswego, NY; nephews, Zach & Alex Fogle; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Derek is also remembered by his mother’s fiancé, DeWayne Mills, of Emmitsburg, and DeWayne’s parents, Melvin & Darlene Singletary, of Bladenboro, NC. He was predeceased by maternal grandparents, George & Pauline Naugle, and paternal grandfather, Lawrence Dunsmore.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 17, at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, MD with Pastor Mark Ginter officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Church of God Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home on Monday.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, P.O. Box 308, Emmitsburg, MD, 21727 to help defray funeral expenses.
