Dennis Richard Clopper, age 66, of Fairfield, PA, died on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at the York Hospital in York, PA. Born February 3, 1948 in Williamsport, Md., he was the son of the late Paul and Ruth (Reid) Clopper. He is survived by his wife, Brenda “Diane” Shifflett Clopper.
Dennis was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served during the Vietnam War. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a postal carrier in Frederick. He was a member of the N.R.A. and the American Legion in Emmitsburg. Dennis loved living off the land and had cleared the lot and built most of his home in Fairfield. He enjoyed target shooting, carpentry, woodworking, animals of all kinds, and was a blacksmith and avid Civil War buff.
Surviving in addition to his wife are children, Heather I. Cox and husband Brandon of Rockledge, FL, Nick P. Clopper and fiancée Jessica Richard of Centerville, VA; grandchildren, Abigail and Amelia; siblings, David Clopper and wife Ursula of Amherst, VA, Irene Crist and husband Arley “Bucky” of Williamsport, MD, and Paul Clopper and wife Audrey of Greencastle, PA; step-daughter, Michelle Mingone and husband Rob of Frederick, MD; step-grandchildren, Mallory and Madison. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, friends, and his beloved pets.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of a Memorial Service and Celebration of Life at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, MD. Pastors Tim and Shirley Simpson will officiate. An outdoor reception at the Carroll Valley Large Ranch Trail pavilion will follow the service.
