Leo Dennis “Dennie” Reed, Sr., 81, of Taneytown, MD, died peacefully on Wednesday, May 2, 2017 at Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster.  Born April 27, 1936 in Mancelona, MI.  He was the husband of Eileen (Donoghue) Reed, to whom he was married for 57 years.  He was the son of the late Osey and Ella (Belcher) Reed.

Dennie was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, where he served our country for 20 years.  Upon retiring from the Navy, he worked as a government contractor at Patuxent Naval Air Station for nearly 25 years, where he was a long-time resident of St. Mary’s County.  He enjoyed woodworking, bowling, playing golf, camping, and family beach outings, especially in Nags Head, NC.  He loved tinkering with things, and to his family, he was the guy that could fix anything.  Above all, he loved spending time with his family.  Dennie was a member of Harney VFW Post #6918 and Hesson Snider American Legion Post #120 in Taneytown.

Surviving in addition to his wife Eileen, are son, Dennis Reed, Jr. and wife Rosemary of Catonsville, MD; daughters, Elizabeth “Beth” Melvin and husband Dave of Chesapeake, VA, and Jenny Reed and spouse Amy Estes of Reisterstown, MD; brother, Robert Reid of Mt. Juliet, TN; sister-in-law, Jean Reid of Hot Springs, AR; grandchildren, Kory Gamet of Portsmouth, VA, Rhyan Gamet of Baltimore, MD, Matthew Reed of Catonsville, MD, and Jordan and Joshua Reed-Estes of Reisterstown, MD; great-grandsons, Isaac and Jonah Gamet; and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by brother, Gerald Reid.

A celebration of Dennie’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD, with Funeral Celebrant John Morrill officiating.  The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.  Inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
