Deborah Lee (Mcfarland) Walsh

Deborah Lee (McFarland) Walsh, age 83 of Finksburg, died on Sunday, July 21, 2024 at The Terraces of Westminster. Born October 18, 1940 in Ephrata, PA, she was the daughter of the late John Wilmer and Martha (Hagy) McFarland. She was the wife of the late Joseph P. Walsh Jr whom she married October 28, 1967. They were married for 52 years before his passing.

She was a 1958 graduate of Ephrata High School. In 1961 Deborah graduated from Lancaster General Hospital School of Nursing. She was the youngest Assistant Nursing Supervisor at Lancaster General Hospital working the evening shift. In 1969 she moved to Maryland and worked in GBMC Emergency Room and Baltimore County General evening supervisor. After moving to Carroll County, she became Sandymount Elementary Schools first school nurse and in 1985 worked as Glyndon Elementary School nurse in Baltimore County. In 1991 she became Baltimore County Public Health School Nurse and was responsible for 40 non-public schools on the west side. Deborah also worked clinics and then retired in January 2004. She enjoyed knitting, playing cards, reading, loved nature and enjoyed her schnauzer’s. Most of all she delighted and loved her children and her grandchildren who were her treasures.

Surviving are children, Brian Walsh and wife Laura of Westminster, Jennifer Whalen and husband Wayne of Spring Grove, PA; grandchildren, Casie and Ryan Walsh, Meghan and Tyler Whalen. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Marth McFarland, and her beloved husband Joseph.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 25, 2024, from 5-8pm at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis Street, Westminster, MD 21157. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Friday, July 25, 2024 at St. John Catholic Church, 43 Monroe St., Westminster, MD 21175. Burial will follow at Meadow Branch Cemetery, Westminster.
