David O’Neal “Dave” Welker, 48, of Taneytown, MD, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at his home following a brief illness. Born October 9, 1968 in Baltimore, he was the son of Donna Kay (Shields) Welker and the late Charles Albert Welker III. He was the husband of Kelly Richelle (Brown) Welker, to whom he was married for more than 23 years.
Dave was a graduate of Joppatowne High School, class of ’86. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from UMBC in 1990. He later earned a Master of Science degree in Cyber Security from Capitol College. At the time of his death, he was a Computer Engineer for Northrop Grumman Corporation. Dave met his wife Kelly in January of 1992 at White Marsh Baptist Church. They were married November 20th, 1993. He loved to fish and go camping with his family, whom he loved immensely. He was full of life, and was a big personality. He was very well known for his dry and sarcastic wit. It was said of Dave that he never met a stranger.
Surviving, in addition to his beloved wife Kelly, are children, Charles Joel “CJ”, Rambo, and Hannah Welker, all of Taneytown; sister, Karen Francis and husband John of Joppa, MD; brother, Donald Welker and wife Lisa of Pylesville, MD; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and in-laws.
Dave’s life will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Westminster Baptist Church, 354 Crest Lane, Westminster, MD with Pastor Larry Steen officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at www.pancan.org, or to St. Joseph Cancer Institute at www.stjosephtowson.com., UMSJMC Foundation designated to the Cancer Institute.
