David Eugene Harris, age 71, of Westminster, Maryland died peacefully on Monday, November 4, 2013 at the Carroll Hospital Center.
Born December 19, 1941 in Maryland, David was the youngest of eight children to the late John William and Mamie Marie (Miller) Harris. He was the husband of Irene C. “Reenie” Harris, who he married on August 3, 1980.
David retired from Black & Decker in 1999 after 33 years of service. He continued working at the Hampstead location under Fidelitone until 2008. It was February, 2008 when he was diagnosed with brain cancer. God has blessed him with five good years before the cancer reoccurred this year.
Dave was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Hampstead. He was also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge in Westminster and the F.O.E. Aerie 2226 Littlestown Eagles.
He enjoyed hunting, trap shooting, gardening, tending to his yard, traveling with Reenie, eating breakfast and dinner at his favorite restaurants and attending all of the Harris family gatherings.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne David Harris “Bunk” and Melissa Harris of Sulfur Springs, TX; grandchildren, John Harris, Hannah Harris, Hayden Howard and Heath Howard all of Sulfur Springs, TX; a brother and sister-in-law, Carl D. Harris and Helen Harris of Westminster; a nephew, Roger L. Harris, Sr., (who was like a brother to him), a sister-in-law, G. Loretta Harris and brother-in-law, Charles Stem both of Westminster; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by siblings, John F. Harris, L. Roy Harris, Betty M. Hunter, Martha V. Stem, Robert A. Harris, and Janet M. Stewart.
Friends may call on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster and on Thursday, November 7, 2013 from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church, 3239 Carrollton Rd., Hampstead, Maryland with the Rev. Amy Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in Wesley UMC Cemetery.
