David Berkau, Jr.

February 6, 1977 — December 25, 2018

David K. Berkau, Jr., 41, of McSherrystown, PA died unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 25, 2018 at his home.  Born February 6, 1977 in Silver Spring, MD, he was the son of Rosemarie (Rose) Berkau of Littlestown, PA and the late David K. Berkau, Sr.

David was a graduate of Liberty High School in Eldersburg, MD, class of ’95.  He attended Carroll Community College, where he majored in Business Administration.  He was employed by Fairlawn Tool & Die in Westminster as a machinist.  He was a free spirit and a devoted son and brother.  He lived life on his own terms.  He listened, and though he rarely took advice, he wasn’t a rebel.  He was a very private person who loved his family and friends.  He didn’t want to leave us.  He loved us and will continue to love us.

My son David died a man, and achieved his goal of making me proud and being proud of himself.  With his passing, our lives will never be the same.  I love you, David, with all my heart and although my heart is broken, I am profoundly proud of you.  I look forward to seeing you again when the time comes.  I will continue to be the best mom I can be to your brother and sister, as you would expect.  I will continue to seek peace, as you wished.  I will not let you down.  It’s my turn to make you proud.  You will be deeply missed by all of us.

Surviving, in addition to his mother Rose, are his brother, Carlos Berkau and wife Christina of Westminster; sisters, Angelina Berkau of Westminster and Kelly Berkau of New York; nephews, Hunter, Gage, Brandon and AJ; nieces, Genevieve, Grace and Emily; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Arrangements have been entrusted to MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME in Taneytown.  Services are private.  Memorial contributions in David’s name may be made to The ALS Association, 1275 K Street NW, Suite 250, Washington, D.C. 20005.
